It seems like Farmers of Punjab & Haryana are not pleased with the delay and uncertainty over the compensation for the damages caused by the latest floods in the state. As a result, multiple Farmer Unions have announced to protest against the administration and enter Chandigarh Sector 17 by hook or by crook. As per reports, farmers of Punjab & Haryana will be trying to present a united front at the Parade Ground, Sector 17, Chandigarh, for compensation for the damage caused by the floods. However, the police have made all preparations to stop them from entering Chandigarh. Reportedly, more than 5 thousand cops have been deployed in Chandigarh, and the Mohali border has been totally sealed. Not only this but also the routes from Panchkula to Chandigarh have also been sealed. Police have put barricading on about 27 routes. Where the Reserve Police Force has been deployed.

Notably, Chandigarh Farmers Protest comes a day after a farmer reportedly died amid clashes between protestors and police personnel in the state’s Sangrur district. Notably, Chandigarh farmers' protest has been called by Kisan Mazdoor Sangarsh Committee along with other unions against non-payment of relief to the flood-affected in the state. Not only this, but farmers have also claimed that several protestors have been “detained" ahead of their planned demonstration on Tuesday.

Talking about the preparations done by the cops ahead of the Chandigarh Farmers Protest, 4 thousand UT Police personnel have been deployed on the border of Chandigarh. One and a half thousand cops of Mohali Police have been made to stand on the border. DSP level officer has been given the responsibility to stop the farmers. The situation is tense at the Shambhu border of Ambala. From here the farmers of Punjab and Haryana are going to Chandigarh. No farmer is being allowed to cross from here. Due to this, there is a heavy traffic jam at the Shambhu border.

Farmer's death

As per reports, a farmer died after being run over by a tractor-trolley, and at least five policemen were injured as farmers clashed with them in Sangrur district on Monday over the “detention" of some farm leaders. The victim was a farmer reportedly participating in the protest in the district’s Longowal area, where police were trying to stop protesters from blocking a national highway and a toll plaza. While netizens on social media allege that the farmer died due to lathi charge by the Police, officials clarified that the slain farmer identified as Pritam Singh came under a tractor-trolley belonging to one of the protesters and sustained severe injuries. He later died during treatment.
