Farmers Protest Day 6: Farmers say ‘will march to Delhi if no solution comes up in 4th meeting’

Today marks the sixth day of the farmers' movement, Sunday (18 February). The farmers who left for Delhi march are stuck at the Shambhu border of Punjab-Haryana. So far, one farmer and sub inspector have died of heart attack during this movement.

 

There will be a fourth meeting held between the Centre and the farmers in Chandigarh at 5.30 pm. Earlier 3 meetings (8, 12 and 15 February) had been inconclusive. If no decision is taken in this meeting, the farmers have announced that they will march to Delhi. Some farmers have reached the police barricading at Shambhu border with tractors. However, no action has been taken yet by the police personnel present on the Haryana side.

 

The Centre has shut down internet in parts of 7 districts of Punjab which are Patiala, Sangrur, Fatehgarh Sahib, Bathinda, Mansa, Mohali and Muktsar till February 24. Internet will remain closed in 7 districts of Haryana till 12 midnight on 19th February. These districts include Ambala, Kurukshetra, Kaithal, Jind, Hisar, Fatehabad and Sirsa. On the other hand, in Haryana, Bharatiya Kisan Union (Chadhuni Group) is running Kisan-Khap Panchayat in Kurukshetra. An announcement will be made from here to start the movement in Haryana. A meeting of Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) is going on in Ludhiana.

 

21 tolls running in 13 districts of Punjab remain free. Here, farmers associated with Bharatiya Kisan Union (Ugrahan) are sitting on dharna at the houses of Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar, former CM Captain Amarinder Singh and Kewal Dhillon.

 

On the other hand, in Haryana, Bharatiya Kisan Union (Chadhuni Group) is running Kisan-Khap Panchayat in Kurukshetra. An announcement will be made from here to start the movement in Haryana. A meeting of Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) is going on in Ludhiana.

 

Whereas 21 tolls running in 13 districts of Punjab will remain free. Here, farmers associated with Bharatiya Kisan Union Ugrahan are sitting on dharna at the houses of Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar, former CM Captain Amarinder Singh and Kewal Dhillon.

 

Ahead of the meeting between farmer leaders and Union Ministers in Chandigarh, the number of farmers at Shambhu border is continuously increasing. Farmers say that if no solution is found in the meeting today then they will march to Delhi tomorrow.
