Farmers protest enters its 5th day on Gurupurab; Shabad, Gurbani resonates on the protesting ground

As the ongoing farmers' agitation against the new agricultural laws passed by the centre entered its fifth day on Monday, with the protestors threatening to block all five entry points to the national capital. 

The sounds of Gurbani and the lessons of the Sikh Gurus resonated on the occasion of Guru Nanak Jayanti.

The words of Gurbani resonated at the central stage of the protest site at Singhu as the farmers included them in their speeches who were addressing the gathering. 

Farmers rejected the centre’s offer to hold talks once they shift to the Burari ground. They said they will not accept any preconditioned discussions and will have a meeting later in the day to discuss their next course of action.  

Security forces were briefed at the border to maintain peace and harmony while the protester’s march. 

On Sunday, the farmers rejected the Center’s proposal to shift their agitation to Delhi's Burari ground and lift the blockade at the borders.

The farmers said that the government should have approached them with an open heart and not on a preconditioned proposal and they will not move to the Burari.

The farmers had been instructed to stay put wherever they were till further instructions from their leaders.

Bharatiya Kisan Union leader Rakesh Tikait said they have also decided to stay at Ghazipur. "We will not leave this spot. We will not move to Burari. The Centre should come forward and listen to the farmers," he added.

As traffic continued to disrupt movement in the city due to the ongoing protests, the Delhi Traffic Police on Monday took to Twitter and informed commuters to take an alternate route since Singhu and Tikri borders will continue to remain closed. 

The tweet said, "Singh Border is still closed from both sides. Please take an alternate route. Traffic has been diverted from Mukarba Chowk & GTK road. Traffic is very very heavy. Please avoid outer ring road from the signature bridge to Rohini & vice versa, GTK Road, NH 44 & Singhu borders," it tweeted.
