On the call of Samyukta Kisan Morcha farmers blocked railway routes in Punjab, detail of trains to be affected and more

With Minimum Support Price, the demand for justice over the death of protesting farmers in Uttar Pradesh’s Lakhimpur Kheri, and other demands on board the Samyukta Kisan Morcha have called for a state-wide protest by obstructing the railway traffic in different parts of the state, today. 

The farmers in the Jalandhar Cantonment railway station got on the tracks and disturbed the schedule of several trains, farmers in Bathinda, Ferozepur, Moga, and Gurdaspur also obstructed the railways to mark their protests. The farmers have decided to cover the railway tracks for four hours from 11 till 3 in the afternoon, which is most likely to affect the New Delhi- Amritsar Shatabdi along with several other trains plying on the route. 

Amid the ongoing protest Shatabdi and Kathiar Express trains in Ludhiana, whereas Delhi-Pathankot and Intercity Express in Jalandhar have been stopped by the protesting farmers.
In Jalandhar, the railway administrative officers stopped the farmers outside the railway station protesting on the call. Later a group of farmers barged inside the railway station and sat on the railway tracks by blocking the railway route.

The protest by the farmers and blocking the railway routes will adversely affect the railway traffic in Punjab. By Saturday evening there were no announcements made by the Ferozepur railway division regarding the cancellation or diverting routes of the trains. However, the trains scheduled between morning 4 to 11 were not affected by the protest on the given route.

The trains that will get affected:
Among the trains likely to get affected includes Amritsar bound Delhi-Amritsar Shatabdi scheduled at 1 PM, Shaan-e-Punjab, Amritsar Festival Special 09613, Intercity Superfast Special 12411, Amritsar Express 19611, Katihar-Amritsar Special 15707, and others.

On the call SKM, farmers have also obstructed the railway route in Tarn Taran. It was scheduled at 11 but however due to heavy rain the farmers reached the station on 12 noon, which will last till 3 in the afternoon.
