Centre Festive-Cheer Covid-Revival

The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved productivity linked bonus and non-productivity bonus for the financial year 2019-20 for over 30 lakh non-gazetted employees, said Union minister Prakash Javadekar.

The bonus will be given in a single installment, through Direct Benefit Transfer, before 'Vijayadashami'. It will cost the government a total of Rs 3,737 crore and benefit a total of 3.67 crore non-gazetted employees.

This comes as a reason to cheer for the government employees ahead of the festive season.

On October 12, the Finance Minister announced a number of measures to induce government employees to spend in the upcoming festive season, including an 'LTC Cash Voucher Scheme' and a 'Special Festival Advance Scheme'.

Under the LTC Cash Voucher Scheme, government employees can opt to receive a cash amount to leave encashment plus three times the ticket fare, to buy items which attract a GST of 12 percent or more. Though, the consumers will have to spend digitally to avail the benefit.

Under this Special Festival Advance scheme, all central government employees will have access to Rs 10,000 advance till March 31, 2021. The amount will be given to central government employees as a prepaid RuPay card.

However, this move will help the country to boost its GDP as part of the Centre's fresh economic revival push from the pandemic.
