Ludhiana Police have registered a case against Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) District Youth Head Parminder Singh Sandhu in Police Station Division No. 5 for using fake certificate of passing 12th class to pursue LLB. The AAP leader is yet to be arrested. Sandhu is very close to senior AAP leaders and chairmen of many boards. Sandhu was earlier in SAD (Badal).

Controversy arose in 2022, when the accused Parminder Singh Sandhu, resident of Gopal Nagar, Tibba Road, had himself lodged an FIR against Advocate Deepak Prajapati in Division No. 5 police station on November 11, 2022, in which it was alleged that Deepak had provided him with a fake license to practice law. However during investigation, it was revealed that the 12th class certificate produced by Parminder Singh Sandhu was also fake. The police have registered a case against the accused in the same FIR which he had lodged.

The police took this action after the complaint by Advocate David Gill. Advocate Gill, in his complaint lodged on January 30, 2023, had alleged that the 12th class certificate produced by accused Parminder Singh Sandhu for taking admission in LLB is fake. After the complaint, the police investigated.

According to police, Sandhu had used the 12th class certificate issued by the Delhi Board of Senior Secondary Education for admission to LLB. During investigation, he told in his statement to the police that he had passed 12th from Punjab School Education Board, Mohali in 2008, but lost his certificate in January 2020.

When the police contacted the board, it was revealed that Sandhu had failed in 12th in 2008. The certificate issued by Delhi Board of Senior Secondary Education was found to be fake. Advocate Gill said that due to political pressure the police was not taking any action against Sandhu. Sandhu has been nominated only after the complaint to the Election Commission.

Named in the FIR dated November 11, 2022, after investigation, Division No. 5 police registered a case against the accused under IPC sections 420 (cheating), 465 (forgery), 467 (forgery of valuable security, will, etc.), 468 (forgery for the purpose of cheating) and 471 (using fake document or electronic record as genuine). The accused was named in the FIR registered against Deepak Prajapati on 11 November 2022.
