FIR registered against newly appointed DSP & hockey player Varun Kumar for raping a minor

Indian hockey team player Varun Kumar, who was recently appointed DSP in Punjab two days ago, has been accused of raping a minor girl. The Bengaluru Police registered an FIR against the hockey player as the girl alleges that Varun had cheated her through Instagram. After this he raped her for 5 years.

 

In the statements given to Bengaluru Police, the girl said that at the age of 17, she came in contact with Varun Kumar through Instagram in 2019. Then Varun was taking training at the Sports Authority of India. After this, Varun raped her on the pretext of marriage which went on for five years. The now 21-year-old said that he refused to marry her.

 

A case has been registered against Varun under various sections including the POCSO Act in Bengaluru, Karnataka. According to sources, the Bengaluru Police team has reached Punjab and Himachal to conduct raids in this case. However, Punjab Police has no input regarding this. Police officials say that Varun will be arrested soon.

 

Appointment letters were given to 11 international players. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had handed appointment letters for class-one government jobs to 11 international players at his Chandigarh residence on Sunday (February 4). In this, Indian women's cricket team captain Harmanpreet Kaur, Indian hockey team captain Harmanpreet Singh and players Mandeep Singh, Dilpreet Singh, Varun Kumar, Shamsher Singh and shotput player Tajinderpal Singh Toor were appointed as DSP.

 

Varun made his debut for the Indian team in 2017. He was also a member of India's hockey team which won bronze at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and on a silver medal in the 2022 Commonwealth Games held in Birmingham. Varun was also a part of the gold winning team at the 2022 Asian Games. He has received Maharaja Ranjit Singh Award and Arjun Award. Varun was handed the appointment letter of DSP by Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann last Sunday (February 4). He was born in Himachal, but now lives in Jalandhar with his family.
