In a shocking development, a physical altercation between groups of Youth in late Friday-Saturday night turned deadly when firing started to take place. Two groups of youth clashed in the law gate area outside Lovely Professional University (LPU) in Phagwara, Punjab. A group opened fire on a man, seriously injuring him. Apart from this, two other youths from the other group also got injured in the fight. The injured were rushed to the hospital. It is said that a fight erupted between the two groups over an old rivalry.
As per reports, a youth named Satyam Kumar was injured by the bullet. Satyam informed that he was attacked around 2.30 am on Friday-Saturday night when he was standing outside the street in the Green Valley area after attending his friend's birthday party. During this time, some youths came riding on 3 bikes and started to fight. After this, a man named Mani opened fire. One bullet touched his arm and one passed through his stomach. People nearby admitted him to the civil hospital. Seeing his serious condition, the doctors referred him to Jalandhar.
Satyam has alleged that Mani had come out of jail on bail only a few days ago. Many cases have already been registered against him. He was serving his sentence in Kapurthala jail.

Adarsh Tripathi from the other party said that Satyam along with his friends attacked us. "When I reached there at night to pick up my friend, Satyam and his associates were beating my friend. When I moved forward to free them, they attacked. He attacked with belts and bracelets. We had no old enmity. My friend had a dispute with Satyam earlier," said Adarsh.
Notably, Phagwara SP Rupinder Kaur was quoted saying that about 7 to 8 people have been arrested in the case. Police have registered a case of attempt to murder and under the Arms Act.
