Gearing up for the mammoth inoculation drive in the district on January 16, 2021, Deputy Commissioner Ghanshyam Thori today reviewed the preparedness to vaccinate as many as 11800 frontline healthcare workers in the district in the first phase.
Divulging the details, the Deputy Commissioner said for the Day-1 vaccination a total of five Session sites have been finalized to administer the vaccine that includes sub-divisional government hospital Nakodar, urban community health center Basti Gujan, SGL Charitable Hospital, Shriman Hospital, and Civil Hospital Jalandhar. However, the district administration has planned vaccination at as many as 29 sites in the district, which would be functional as the drive moves ahead adding he said that these sites include different CHCs, PHCs, the district hospital, sub-divisional hospitals, and some private hospitals.
The deputy commissioner said that with the capacity to store over 12 lakh vaccines, a total of 57 cold chain points have been set up of which 11 points (Eight in rural and Three in urban areas) to be utilized to store the first slot of vaccine scheduled to arrive within days.
Revealing more, he said that after the 28 days of the first dose, the second dose would be administered to the listed healthcare workers and an elaborate mechanism has been evolved to ensure the smooth vaccination drive.
He said that a total of 31 health teams would be administering the vaccines across all 29 session sites and each team has a target to vaccinate 100 beneficiaries per day resulting in vaccinating of as many as 2900 beneficiaries daily, he added.
Giving information about the storage capacity and preparedness, the deputy commissioner said that the district administration has built the capacity to store over 12 lakh vaccines with all points linked with cooling features to maintain the required temperature for the vaccine.
