Indian e-commerce company Flipkart has issued an apology after facing a lot of backlash on social media over a stereotypical Women’s Day message. Flipkart sent a promotional message to their customers on Women’s day in which they reinforced cliché gender roles and stereotypes of women being a homemaker.

The message reads, “Dear Customer, This Women's Day, let's celebrate You. Get Kitchen Appliances from ₹299." Soon after, the message was shared by various users on Twitter. The users started criticizing Flipkart for its misogynist approach.

A user wrote, “If Flipkart actually promotes home gym set up on women's day, that would be a game changer but alas.”

Another user shared, “This women's day @Flipkart wants you to think “Kitchen is where women belong" #WomensDay”

One more user wrote, “Shameful @Flipkart Can we stop identifying women with kitchen appliances. Atleast spare them on Women’s Day because we know you’re incapable of it the rest of the 364 days.”

After this, Flipkart issued an apology in which they wrote, “We messed up and we are sorry. We did not intend to hurt anyone's sentiments and apologize for the Women's Day message shared earlier.”

Earlier, Global brands like KFC, Pizza Hut, Hyundai and KIA motors faced backlash on social media for showing support on Kashmir Solidarity Day. Along with Hyundai, KIA, KFC, Isuzu, Suzuki, other brands like Honda, Toyota were also involved in this.
