

No matter what divides people, food has the power to unite us as Indians, especially the rich Punjabi food with its royal taste and desi ghee.
1. The king of all Punjabi dishes – “Butter Chicken”
It may not have originated in Punjab but Butter chicken is surely the crowning jewel of the food of Punjab.
2. The pride of Punjab-“Lassi”
Though it can be salty, the original lassi as it became famous, is sweet with a dollop of cream and butter to make it as rich as you can. Flavours like mango, rose or strawberry are added these days to give it a twist while beating the summer heat.
3. Punjabi Food Fiesta- “Chole-Bhature”
A standard Punjabi dish in most fast-food restaurants now, it should be your go-to when you are craving some hardcore spicy food of Punjab.
4. Be it plain or stuffed- “Parantha”
Even while travelling, the most preferred item to eat at a Dhaba is mostly always a Parantha. Fried in desi ghee is the way Punjabis like there Paranthas.
5. The dal that rules all- “Dal Makhani”
The mouth-watering buttery Punjabi dish of lentils is a rich mixture of black lentils and red kidney beans in thick gravy which can be made even richer with dollops of cream.
6. Chicken of the vegetarians- “Paneer Tikka”
Chargrilled and spiced, the soft cottage cheese delicacy is the first to come to mind when one thinks of vegetarian appetisers.
7. Spicy and Tangy- “Kadhi”
The Punjabi Kadhi approves to the awesomeness of the day-to-day food of Punjab and its people. The pakoras that are put are generally made of besan and onions. An alternative to them is also by putting in some peas and sliced onion to give a different flavour.
8. Everyone favourite- “Rajma Chawal”
Even though Rajma is domestic to Kashmir, it's a favourite among all Punjabis and their grandmothers.
9. Favourite couple- “Makki di Roti & Sarson da Saag”
Being a winter favourite, ‘saag’ can be found in all restaurants as a speciality. Sarson da Saag and Makki di Roti can become tastier with a dollop of the famous desi-ghee.
10. Guilty pleasure- “The Gobhi-Shalgam-Gajaar Achaar”
Indians love all things spicy, especially their pickles. Punjab's love for pickles is definitely a notch higher than the rest of the country. The ‘cauliflower-turnip-carrot pickle’ is an all in one with the tangy, sweet and spicy or most flavours we love, in a single pickle.
