Former deputy CM’s Son, Udhayveer Singh Randhawa accused of kidnaping youth

As Panjab University (PU) gears up for upcoming Student’s Council (PUCSU) elections, the police have taken over the partial security of the campus to prevent any incident.

According to reports on Thursday a student was tried to held hostage to which Sukhjinder Randhawa’s son is being held accused of.

Congress Leader and former deputy CM Sukhjinder Randhawa’s son Udhayveer Singh Randhawa allegedly assaulted a youth and also put him in a vehicle at gunpoint last night.

Apparently, the youth identified as Nirvair Singh Gill, was in a 5-star hotel in Sector 17 of Chandigarh where he met Udhayveer Singh in a washroom and provoked him following which a scuffle broke between the duo. Later he fled from there as gunmen of Randhawa were trying to nab him. A few moments later Gill was chased by Udhayveer and they took him in a vehicle and beat him.

A police official said, "We have received complaints from both sides. The CCTV footage of the restaurants are being scrutinised. Both the complainants have received minor injuries and were treated at a government hospital. The complaints are being investigated."

There are rumors that they both had a rivalry for last two years.

With poll activity picking up in Panjab University campus, supporter of Students for Society and PSU-Lalkaar on Tuesday organised a protest at the Student Centre, where Chhatra Yuv Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS) was set to announce its campaigning squad for the upcoming PU Campus Student Council elections.

This year, the student elections are likely to be held in the second week of September. Colleges have been urging PU and UT administration to declare the election date soon so students can focus on their studies after wrapping up the elections.
