Punjab’s Former CM Charanjit Singh Channi who is a big face of Dalit community as well might contest upcoming Jalandhar’s Lok Sabha by-election. There are speculations that he might get the ticket to be one of the contenders for Jalandhar’s by-election.
The reason for Channi becoming the contender from Congress side is that he was the 1st Dalit CM of Punjab. Also, the main reason for Congress performing well in Doaba region was because of Charanjit Singh Channi as the major vote bank of Doaba consists of Dalits. Chanrajit Singh Channi came back from abroad just a few months back only. He was also seen during Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Yatra but did not receive much importance from Punjab’s Congress President Amarinder Singh Raja Warring.
Sources have revealed that Charanjit Singh Channi wants to make a strong hold in politics as many allegations were out up against him as soon as he returned back to India. Channi is also under the scanner of Vigilance Bureau. By winning the Jalandhar Lok Sabha by-election Charanjit Singh Channi wants to make a powerful comeback in politics.
Sources have further revealed that there is an internal conflict going on inside Congress party regarding Channi becoming the contender. Many Congress leaders have opposed this decision. Many have suggested that MP Satokh Sigh Choudhary’s wife should get the ticket to contest elections. As Channi holds a strong relationship with Rahul Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi and other prominent leaders of Congress party, they might consider his name in the list of contenders as well.
