While the conflict between the Indian Army and SGPC regarding the purported army defense placement inside the Golden Temple continues, Iqbal Singh Lalpura, Chairperson of the National Commission for Minorities, speaks in an exclusive interview with TrueScoop News, highlighting that advocates of all faiths should refrain from crossing the line of religious sensitivity.
As Lalapura pointed out, “The holy shrine of Darbar Sahib was constructed by Guru Amar Das Ji, and epitomizes peaceful coexistence as well as unity.” Therefore, “It is not just a monument—it is a sacred space that must not be dragged into political or defense-related controversies,” as he further elaborated.
Moreover, he commented, dispelling the debate, saying all concerned parties should be more devoted toward fostering interreligious understanding.
The Sikh community’s contributions to the armed forces and civic life is, in Lalapura’s words, “pride,” indicating the current Sikh Indian Air Marshal’s presence within the ranks as demonstrable evidence of the community’s relationship with the military.
“Let us not create controversy and enrich the spirit of harmony,” he concluded.
