Former Punjab Congress chief Navjot Singh Sidhu gave controversial statements on Friday where he said that even donkeys won the elections in Modi wave. With this he also announced his refrain from contesting the Lok Sabha elections. Earlier, Sidhu had met Governor Banwari Lal Purohit in Chandigarh. He demanded a CBI inquiry into the scams in Punjab while also demanding an audit of the budget.

Sidhu said while talking to the media when asked about his Lok Sabha intentions that he has answered this question 200 times. He said that if he had to contest elections, he would have contested from Kurukshetra and would have been a minister today. He further stated that he doesn’t want to go to Lok Sabha having left Rajya Sabha for 4-5 years.

‘There is a person who has left the ministry. He has won elections 3 times during the time of Prime Minister Manmohan. When Modi wave came, even donkeys won the elections.(Translated)’ Sidhu said.

On the question of 3 Congress leaders leaving the party one after the other, Sidhu said that characters are recognized in difficult times. He is standing with his party. Those who left the party must have had some compulsions as no one is disloyal just like that. He defended Party chief Raja Warring and said that he was not responsible for this.

Along with Navjot Singh Sidhu, former party president Shamsher Singh Dullo and Mahinder Singh KP raised many issues including sports in the budget. He said that the way the budget has been played in Punjab, the Punjab Governor has been informed about it. Apart from this, the manner in which scams took place in Punjab were also mentioned.
