In a major development, Islamabad on Friday announced that India and Pakistan have agreed to extend the ceasefire till May 18 after DGMO-level talks. Earlier, the India-Pakistan ceasefire was up to May 12, 2025. The ceasefire agreement came against the backdrop of the border conflict between India and Pakistan after the Pahalgam Terror Attack. To avenge the Pahalgam Terror Attack that killed 26 innocent tourists in Kashmir, India launched Operation Sindoor in which it destroyed 9 terror camps in PoK and Pakistan. Instead of supporting New Delhi in its fight against terrorism, Pakistan fired missiles and drones at India that were mostly neutralised by India's impeccable air defence system.

Notably, Pakistan attacked India's bordering states with imported missiles and drones from China and Turkey. Punjab (India) was also on the target of Pakistan. Now, the question arises, what were the drones that Pakistan fired to target Punjab? Below is what you should know-

Drones that Pakistan used to target India's Punjab

As per an India Today report, Pakistan used Bayraktar TB2, YIHA drones, and Asisguard Songar drones against India. The drones are believed to be used for target designation, and potentially kamikaze strikes, especially to threaten forward Indian positions or supply convoys. On the intervening nights of May 7 and 8, Pakistan launched around 300–400 drones to target Indian military infrastructure along the northern and western borders.

As per reports, Asisguard Songar drones is said to one of the most advanced weapon of Turkey used by Pakistan. These drones can fire up to 8 grenades and also have machine guns loaded in them which can fire up to 200 rounds of bullets. Most of drones that India shot down was Asisguard Songar drones.

Bayraktar TB2 can fly up to 27 hours and can drop four laser-guided rockets. But, it was destroyed by the Indian defence system.

List of Punjab cities that were on target of Pakistan

Pakistan escalated the conflict with India by targeting Indian Military sites as well as civilian areas of Punjab. Pakistan attacked Ferozepur, Fazilka, Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Hoshiarpur, Gurdaspur, Adampur, and Pathankot. When Pakistani drones entered, the army's defense system started shooting them down in the sky. Despite this, drones kept coming from Pakistan.

A house caught fire after a drone fell in Khai Seme village of Ferozepur. Three people were seriously injured ther. All three were admitted to the hospital. Villagers say that when the drone fell, the lights of the house were on. At the same time, a loud explosion took place 20 km away from the Kartarpur corridor in Gurdaspur. Amidst the attack, a blackout was also done in Pathankot, Ferozepur, Amritsar, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Jalandhar, Fazilka, Patiala, Faridkot, Fatehgarh Sahib and Bathinda.

Notably, Pakistan alleged that it targeted Adampur Airbase and also destroyed the S400 that were installed there. However, soon Pakistan's claim to hit S-400 and destroy Adampur Airport was debunked. PM Modi, after the ceasefire, visited Adampur Airbase and addressed the jawans with S400 in the background, debunking Pakistani propaganda that was peddled just to please their people.

Pakistan's drone attack attempt on Punjab

No casualties were reported in Pathankot, and attempted drone strikes were intercepted. Kapurthala, Ludhiana, and Adampur were on high alert due to attempted drone attacks, which were effectively thwarted. Pakistani drones attempted to fly over the Jalandhar cantonment zones. They were shot down before entering the inner perimeter.
