Karamjit Kaur holds an MPhil in English from Punjabi University Patiala, an MA in History from Panjab University, an MA in English from Panjab University, and a BA from Panjab University. She retired as the Director of Public Instructions (Colleges) for the Government of Punjab on April 30th, 2011.

Karamjit Kaur's son, S. Vikramjit Singh Chaudhary, is an MLA from Phillaur in Punjab. Her husband, Shri Santokh Singh Chaudhary, passed away during the Bharat Jodo Yatra on January 14th, 2023, leaving a void in the political landscape of Jalandhar.
