'Google Pay shutting down on June 4, 2024, But There's A Catch'

Google on Friday announced Google Pay's suspension in a detailed statement, however, its services will remain operational in India.

Online payment app Google Pay is shutting down and many of its services won't be in operation from June 4, 2024. Google on Friday announced Google Pay's suspension in a detailed statement, however, its services will remain operational in India. Google Pay has announced that it is shutting down its operation in the USA but it will remain functional in India. Below is what Google Pay's detailed statement says- 

 

"Google Wallet continues to be the primary place for people to securely store payment cards used for tap and pay in stores, alongside other digital items like transit cards, driver’s licenses, state IDs, and more. To simplify the app experience, the U.S. version of the standalone Google Pay app will no longer be available for use starting June 4, 2024. You can continue to access the most popular features — tapping to pay in stores and managing payment methods — right from Google Wallet, which is used five times more than the Google Pay app in the U.S."

 

A few updates U.S. Google Pay app users should know

 

  • Manage your Google Pay balance from the Google Pay app until June 4: You can use the U.S. version of the Google Pay app until June 4, 2024 to view and transfer your Google Pay balance to your bank account.   • Changes to peer-to-peer payments: As of June 4, 2024, you will no longer be able to send, request, or receive money from others through the U.S. version of the Google Pay app.
