Google News Initiative Startups Lab India (GNI) has selected True Scoop News, Punjab's fastest-growing digital news channel among 10 media organizations that will form the second cohort. The GNI Startups Lab is a 12-week catalyst program created in collaboration with Anymind Group and T-hub. Before this, True Scoop News' Managing Director & Founder, Ms. Khyati Kohli was also part of the GNI Fact Checking cohort of 2022. 

 

True Scoop News was founded in 2018 with a focus on raising and producing Youth-centric content. Courtesy of our groundbreaking stories, addressing real issues, and curated OTT content, True Scoop News is now Punjab's fastest-growing digital news media.

 

Apart from True Scoop News, the other 9 startups include- Democratic Charkha, Feminism in India, Ground Report, Medical Dialogues, Pratidhvani, Queerbeat, Southlive, The Mooknayak, and Telugu Post. 


The GNI Startups Lab program aims to help the next generation independent Indian early stage news startups achieve financial and operational sustainability. The GNI Startups Lab India supports high-quality reporting for local communities, niche audiences and/or previously underserved communities across India.

 

Chosen out of over 110 applicants from across India, the ten news startups cover an array of types of journalism, including investigative, political, medical, youth, climate, and local news organizations that give a voice to underrepresented communities. The diverse cohort features newsrooms from around the country, producing news in languages including English, Hindi, Malayalam, Kannada, and Telugu.
