Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (Meity), Government of India had asked Twitter to withheld accounts using hashtag #ModiplanningFarmerGenocide. Although, Twitter had withheld these accounts but later the accounts were unwithheld.

The blocking was also due to the MInistry of Home Affairs and law enforcement agencies.

Now the government notice has again asked Twitter to comply with notice. Government notice asks Twitter to comply with order to remove contents/accounts related to hashtags linked to farmers protest.

According to sources, Twitter is likely to face penal action for not complying with government orders. The government sources said, Twitter unilaterally unblocked accounts/tweets despite order; incitement to genocide threat to law & order.
