Greek fashion designer Sophia Kokosalaki, who was based in London, has died. She was 47. No further details of her death have been made available so far.

Sophia, an acclaimed designer, was celebrated for her talent for drapery. Outfits designed by Sophia were worn on the red carpet by actresses including Chloe Sevigny, Kirsten Dunst and Jennifer Connelly.

Sophia was born in Athens in 1972 and before shifting base to London, studied Greek and English literature at the University of Athens. In London, meanwhile, Sophia graduated from the Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design.

Sophia launched her label in London in 1999 and within the next five years, had won several awards. She, in fact, also designed outfits for the opening and closing ceremonies at the 2004 Summer Olympic Games in Athens.

Sophia also worked as the creative director at French fashion house Vionnet from 2006 to 2007.

Speaking of her line of clothes, Sophia had said, "I like to design functional apparel that also allows you to look interesting."

Sophia Kokosalaki is survived by her husband and daughter.
