The much-awaited real-life crime thriller Griselda was released on Netflix on January 25, 2024, and ever since then, the show has been garnering global reactions. Not only in the US, but Griselda has also made its way into the top 10 most-watched series of the week on Netflix in India. Directed by Andres Baiz who made the globally hit series Narcos, Griselda is the true story of a Columbian woman named Griselda Blanco who owned a cocaine operation in Miami, USA during the late 1970s-80. Infamously known as 'The Godmother', Griselda Blanco broke the stereotype in the drug business and made her own empire by smuggling cocaine using models and adult workers. Since you have landed on this page, True Scoop News assumes that you have already watched Griselda on Netflix and have questions related to the Godmother's bodyguard Chucho. Below is everything you need to know about Griselda's real-life bodyguard Jesus 'Chucho' Castro-

Who was Jesus 'Chucho' Castro & what happened to him?

Jesus 'Chucho' Castro was among the first bodyguards of 'Cocaine Godmother' Griselda. Griselda first met Chucho in Miami in an eatery where he used to work as a waiter. After talking to Chucho, Griselda found out that he is also from Columbia. Therefore, she offered him US $200 to be with her as a bodyguard whenever she went to talk to other drug dealers in Miami. However, Griselda and Chucho's cordial relationship collapsed when he punched the Godmother's elder son Dixon. (Spoilers Ahead)

For those who have already watched Griselda on Netflix, the conflict between the two was intensified when Chucho decided against helping one of Griselda’s sons- Dixon. When she learned about it, she allegedly sent Jorge 'Rivi' Ayala to kill him. "Jesus turned him away. He said "I’ve separated. I’ve cut ties with you and your mom and you are not welcome here." Well, that was offensive to Griselda,” said Nelson Andreu, retired West Miami Police Chief.  Chucho was a married man with a 2-year-old boy. He didn’t want to invite authorities into his house, which was why he refused to help Dixon.

As a result, on February 7, 1982, Rivi followed Chucho’s Cadillac driving on South Dixie Highway and 168th Street and pulled out a Mac 10 machine pistol on him. The victim acted in fear, slid under the steering wheel, and hit the pedal to escape the storm of bullets. Because of that, the bullets pierced the car’s door and hit Chucho’s son, Johnny, sitting in the back, thereby killing the innocent soul on the spot. Notably, Chucho escaped the assassination and hence the question arises what happened to him in the end?

What did Chucho do after escaping the assassination attempt?

As per reports, at first, Chucho decided to kill Griselda and Rivi. But, he later joined the others and gave statement against Rivi and Griselda to the US Police Department. It was most likely because of his statement that Rivi was charged with Johnny’s murder in August 1988, while Griselda faced conviction for the attempted murder of Chucho Castro on October 1, 1998. Most likely, Chucho has already been released and is living as a free man in some part of the world, if he is not already dead. Griselda’s real-life bodyguard might not have had a role to play in her downfall directly, but his tragedy became the spark that burned her whole drug empire down.
