As Punjab police tied their shoes to nail down the drugs racket in Punjab, the drug peddlers have also taken a turn in order to escape from the trap. 

In recent Police action, CIA Police arrested Sanju and Akash alias Aman Kundi from Firozpur Dana Mandi and recovered a total of 270 grams of heroin from them. Investigating officer Sub-Inspector Jajpal Singh said that the police have recovered 260 grams of heroin, an iPhone and 10 grams of heroin, and a weighing machine from Aman. Both of them used to supply drugs in various villages. The police have taken both of them into custody and sought remand from the court so that their network can be completely traced and broken.

Increase in Rates 

A young man, who is addicted to drugs, revealed that there has been a significant increase in the rates of heroin and weed after the Police started taking stringent actions. The youth said that the packet of heroin which was earlier available for Rs 400, now it is hardly available for Rs 500. Now instead of selling openly, sales are being done only after proper inquiry and home deliveries are more prevalent nowadays. He further told that the small pouch of liquor, which is often found in homes in some areas, is 30 rupees per pouch, which was earlier Rs 20. 

Not only this, the weed pouch is available for 50 to 100 rupees. Weed is generally consumed by filling it in a chillam. On desolated buildings and roads, youth are often found consuming weed and heroin.

A viral video from Cantonment's ward number 1

A video of a youth from ward number 1 of the cantonment went viral on social media, in which a drunken young man is lying on the road. There is huge anger among the people against the drugs being sold continuously. People say that if drugs are controlled, many families will be saved. Rajesh Kumar, who retired from BSF, said that drug addiction is making the younger generation hollow. Youth should be saved from drugs and taken towards sports.

People should cooperate with the police in breaking the chain of drugs: SSP

 SSP Charanjit Singh Sohal said that various teams have been formed by the police to break the extensive chain of drugs. Soon a meeting will also be held with the Medical Association under the officers’ leadership. In order to curb medical drugs leading to addiction, apart from raiding the shops of medicine, the drug addicts will be admitted to de-addiction centers. He said that addiction is a disease that can be treated. The youth who have turned from the right path will be saved from the swamp of drugs and brought on the right path.
