Whereas in mythology it is celebrated to celebrate the victory of Lord Rama over Ravana, and his coronation after 14 years of exile. It is believed that the universe was created on the day of Gudi Padwa.

This festival is celebrated with great pomp in Maharashtra. There is a historical story behind this too. Actually, the Maratha ruler Chhatrapati Shivaji first celebrated the festival of Gudi Padwa after winning the war. Since then the Marathi community also started celebrating this festival every year.
