Gujarat Civic Polls: BJP bags 247 seats but celebrations for AAP

Polling of 144 wards having 576 seats across six civic bodies including Ahmedabad, Surat, Rajkot, Vadodra, Bhavnagar and Jamnagar held on Sunday. According to reports, the average turnout was reported to be 46.08%.

With 192 seats across 48 wards in Ahmedabad MC, 120 seats in 30 wards in the Surat Municipal Corporation, 76 seats in 19 wards of Vadodra Municipal Corporation, 72 seats in 18 wards in Rajkot, 52 seats in 13 wards at Bhavnagar and 64 seats in 16 wards in Jamnagar Municipal Corporation, the elections again prove to be a boon for BJP.

The final results have come from Rajkot in which out of 72 seats 68 are won by BJP while 4 are won by Congress. Similarly, out of 64 seats of Jamnagar, BJP won 50 while Congress won 11 and BSP got hold over just 3.

On the other hand, in Bhavnagar, out of 52 seats, 44 seats are won by BJP while Congress got its hold on 8.

Celebrations for AAP

As of now, the Aam Aadmi Party won 8 seats including 4 seats from ward number 4 while another 4 from ward number 16. Out of 120 seats in Surat, BJP has till now won 12.

As the results are coming in, it seems AAP is in a celebratory mood with experts terming their win from  several wards as breaching the BJP's citadel.
