In a bizarre development, international students studying at Gujarat University on Saturday were attacked by unidentified assailants in Ahmedabad. As per reports, the mob launched an attack on international students mainly from Africa, Uzbekistan, and Afghanistan for allegedly reading Namaz in the hostel premises. Now, the Gujarat University attack video is going viral on social media and even AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi raised questions about the Government of Gujarat and asked whether Prime Minister Narendra Modi & HM Amit Shah would intervene in the matter or not.
In one of the Gujarat University attack videos, an international student can be heard saying, "We are being attacked, you guys share this live video. Indians have attacked us in the hostel...This is the challenge we are facing right now in India. We cannot survive like this. We are being attacked because this is the time of Ramadan and Muslims were praying. Police are not responding but I think they are coming. "
Another person who filmed the video can be heard saying, "This is what is happening in our hostel A Block... This is unacceptable, they come here to attack us in our hostel."
Another video went viral on social media which claimed that, "Foreign national Md Haroon slapped Hindu boy for asking him to use a mosque instead of public property to offer Namaz"...This is the only truth about the #GujaratUniversity controversy. Scuffle started after this & that was not religious but between two students groups..."
As per reports, the students lived in a university hostel and the attack on Saturday night occurred within the premises of the public state university. The injured students have been admitted to the SVP Hospital in Ahmedabad. The mob pelted stones at the hostel and also vandalised bikes and vehicles that were parked outside. Multiple videos showcase the mob running away as soon as the Police arrived.
Meanwhile, Owaisi took to his X handle and wrote, "What a shame. When your devotion & religious slogans only come out when Muslims peacefully practice their religion. When you become unexplainably angry at the mere sight of Muslims. What is this, if not mass radicalisation? This is the home state of @AmitShah & @narendramodi, will they intervene to send a strong message? I am not holding my breath. @DrSJaishankar domestic anti-Muslim hatred is destroying India’s goodwill."
