Gurdaspur groom brings 'Baarat on Camel' in Ajnala to resurrect 'ancient Maharaja culture' in Punjab

Punjab Trending Ajnala Wedding procession on Camel

A wedding procession on Saturday grabbed the attention of passersby in Ajnala, Punjab as the groom sat on a camel and went to marry his fiance. In the age where most of the wedding processions take place on either vehicle, rath, or horse, the Ajnala groom opted for a camel so that he and his family can resurrect the old customs when Maharajs used to bring baarat either on Elephant or a camel. 

 

In the video, the groom who is named Satnam Singh can be seen dancing on the camel while his relatives groove to the beats of Dhol on the road. The groom's cousin Happy said that they wanted the wedding procession to be unique as well as connected to their traditions. Therefore, they decided to bring the wedding processions on camel. 

 

As per the information received, Satnam Singh, the groom, hails from the village of Sarchur in the Gurdaspur district. On Saturday, Satnam carried forward the tradition of his elders as he rode on a camel to a private palace in Ajnala. When the wedding procession reached near Ajnala, the local people and passers-by present there started blocking the road. Seeing the unique wedding procession, people started to film it as well.
