Haryana Home Minister Anil Vij who became the first minister to volunteer for Covaxin has tweeted this morning to inform that he has tested positive for coronavirus. He has tested positive days after voluntarily taking a test dose of Covid-19 vaccine.

Vij, 67 tweeted that he had tested positive for coronavirus and was admitted to the Civil Hospital in Ambala Cantonment, about 50 km from here.

On November 20, Vij was given a shot of Bharat Biotech's vaccine 'Covaxin' for which he had volunteered.

The minister has asked all those who came in contact with him to get themselves tested.

"The antibodies against the infection build up in a human being only after a specific number of days pass after the second dose of the vaccine is taken, since this is a two-dose vaccine. The minister in question has taken only one dose of the vaccine," the Union Health Ministry said after Mr Vij's announcement.

Vij was the first from Haryana state to take part in a vaccine trial.

Apart from Vij, in August, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar had tested Covid-19 positive and was admitted to a private hospital in Gurgaon near Delhi. The state assembly speaker, Gian Chand Gupta, had tested positive, before the assembly session.

About 1,000 subjects were given Covaxin shot in the first two phases of clinical trials. The analysis from these trials has shown the vaccine to be ‘promising safety and immunogenicity data’.
