Is Ex-Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar likely to be Punjab Governer? Resigns as MLA

After leaving the post of Chief Minister of Haryana, Manohar Lal has also resigned from the Legislative Assembly. He resigned after the new government proved its majority in the Assembly. After which now there is discussion that preparations are going on to give him the responsibility of Governor of Punjab.

According to sources, before the change in Haryana, opinion polling has also been done by the Center in this regard. He has also given his consent to this proposal of the Centre.

Manohar Lal was elected MLA from Karnal for the second time in the 2019 assembly elections. Earlier he had won the 2014 elections. After which he was made the CM. He was the CM of Haryana for 9 years and 4 months. Last Monday i.e. on March 12, he resigned from the post of Chief Minister.

Some special reasons are being given for the discussion about making Manohar Lal Khattar the Governor of Punjab. According to experts, Manohar Lal could not become Governor while being an MLA, hence he resigned from the Assembly. Another big reason is that the Governor of Punjab and Administrator of Chandigarh, Banwari Lal Purohit, has recently tendered his resignation, although his resignation has not been accepted yet.

He had resigned after meeting Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Delhi. Therefore, there are possibilities that if he becomes the Governor of Punjab, he will be seen in a new role while living in Chandigarh. With this, the Center will also be able to keep a an eye on Punjab. Also, he will shift from Haryana CM House to the bungalow of Punjab Governor.

There is also discussion in political circles that he will contest the Lok Sabha elections from Karnal, but the possibility of this is very less. The reason for this, as per sources, is that at present his close friend Sanjay Bhatia is the MP from Karnal, he would not want him to face any problem because of him.

Manohar Lal worked as the 9th and 10th Chief Minister of Haryana for 9 years and four months. 69-year-old Manohar Lal became the CM of the state for the first time on October 26, 2014. After this, he became the Chief Minister for the second time on October 27, 2019.

Manohar Lal is a resident of village Nindana in Rohtak. Naib Singh Saini, who became the new Chief Minister of the state, is considered close to him.

The five MLAs who have got a chance to become ministers again in Naib Singh Saini's cabinet are also considered close to Manohar Lal. Dr. Banwari Lal may come from Bawal seat of Rewari, but he is said to be close to Manohar Lal. Banwari Lal is also considered a confidant of Rao Inderjit Singh.
