
Record rain in thelast 24 hours in Delhi has caused heavy waterlogging and traffic jams in partsof the city, with traffic police providing updates on flooded areas.
As per IndiaMeteorological Department (IMD), Delhi will witness "generally cloudy skywith moderate rain/thundershowers" today.
“The monsoon troughhas reached Delhi and hence the intense spell. Light showers may continuethroughout the day. Patchy rainfall and thundershowers are likely to stay inparts of the city till August 23,” said a senior IMD official.
"Delhi'sSafdarjung observatory records 138.8 mm rain in the last 24 hours till 8.30 amtoday. This is the season's highest one-day rain," said the IndiaMeteorological Department, while the city recorded 11 mm rainfall till 5.30 pmFriday.
Several roads nearITO, Minto Road, Pragati Maidan and others were waterlogged after heavyrainfall in Delhi.
Meanwhile, Delhitraffic police has informed that Azad Market Underpass is closed due to 1.5feet waterlogging. Additionally, traffic movement on MInto Bridge has also beenclosed. Traffic has also been affected at Moolchand Underpass due towaterlogging.
On the other hand,the traffic is moving in one lane at Dhaula Kuan-Gurgaon road.
The showers improvedDelhi-NCR’s air quality, though it hovered in the moderate category. Theoverall AQI reading on Saturday morning was at 107 as against 167 on Friday.
According to theIMD’s weekly forecast, the minimum and maximum temperature is likely to hoveraround 25 and 31 degrees Celsius, respectively.
