Joe Biden was sworn-in as the 46th President and Kamala Harris as Vice President of the United States, in a historic ceremony on Wednesday noon.

Biden declared after being swearing in, ‘We have learned again that democracy is precious, democracy is fragile and at this hour, my friends, democracy has prevailed’. He also mentioned about the present situation and said Coronavirus silently stalks the country. More lives have been lost to the disease than were lost in World War I.

"I am heading to the Oval Office to get right to work delivering bold action and immediate relief for American families," tweeted US President Joe Biden.

The key highlights of Biden’s first speech as president:

My message to all those hearing me even beyond borders that America has been tested and we have come out stronger for it always. We will repair our alliances and engage with the world once again. I am committed to serve the people of America.

I and my team will lead, not by the example of our power, but by the power of our example. We'll be a strong and trusted partner for peace, progress and security.

I know forces that divide us are deep & they are real. But I also know they are not new. Our history has been a constant struggle between the American ideal that we're all created equal and harsh ugly reality that racism, nativism, fear, demonization have long torn us apart.

No matter what, Americans have always come together for the greater good. History, faith and reason show the way, the way of unity.

"Few people in our nation's history have been more challenged or found a time more challenging or difficult than the time we're in now," Biden said focusing on the Covid-19 pandemic and the raging disunity marked by the riot at that very spot.

"We must end this uncivil war that pits red against blue, rural versus urban, conservative versus liberal. We can do this if we open our souls instead of hardening our hearts," he said.

"I promise you, I will fight as hard for those who did not support me as for those who did," he said.

I have just taken the oath, so as my counterparts. But the American story doesn’t depend on any one of us, not on some of us, but on all of us. On us, the people, who seek a more perfect union, this is a great nation. We are all good people’.

We have much to do in this winter of peril, and significant possibilities: much to repair, much to restore, much to heal, much to build and much to gain," Biden said, hitting optimistic notes ahead of a busy day that is expected to see a rash of executive orders.
