Himachal Pradesh Earthquake: Multiple cities jolted by 3.1 magnitude tremor thrice

In a major development, Himachal Pradesh on Saturday was jolted by an earthquake at least 3 times. The National Center for Seismology confirmed the Himachal Pradesh earthquake today saying that the hilly state was shaken by a 3.1 magnitude tremor. As per reports, Himachal Pradesh was jolted with two more after shocks, forcing people to come out from their house and stand in the open. 


National Center for Seismology on its official X handle wrote, "Earthquake of Magnitude:3.1, Occurred on 13-01-2024, 13:16:25 IST, Lat: 32.93 & Long: 76.14, Depth: 9 Km , Location: Chamba, Himachal Pradesh."

 

Interestingly, last year around the same timeline i.e. January 14, 2023, Himachal Pradesh was jolted by 3.2 magnitude earthquake. "An earthquake with a magnitude of 3.2 on the Richter Scale hit 22km East of Dharamshala, Himachal Pradesh at 5:17 am today," the National Centre for Seismology reported. 

 

Notably, northern India including Himachal Pradesh is already on red alert due to severe cold.
