In light of the ongoing Indo-Pak tensions, Deputy Commissioner of Amritsar, Mrs. Sakshi Sahni, has announced that all educational institutions, including schools and colleges, in the district will remain closed on May 8. The decision was taken after a high-level meeting to assess the current situation. She added that further decisions regarding reopening will be made after a thorough review of the conditions.
Mrs. Sahni reassured residents that the district administration is fully prepared to handle any emergency. Addressing the rising panic among citizens, she emphasized that there is no shortage of essential commodities such as petrol, cooking gas, medicines, and ration supplies in Amritsar.
She took serious note of the long queues observed at petrol stations, grocery stores, and ATMs, urging the public not to indulge in panic buying or hoarding. "Unnecessary hoarding promotes black marketing and creates artificial scarcity," she warned, adding that strict action will be taken against those found guilty of such practices.
The Deputy Commissioner also cautioned citizens against spreading or acting on unverified messages circulating on social media. She urged residents to verify any news or advisory before acting upon or forwarding it, to avoid causing unnecessary panic among the public.
“The district administration is actively monitoring the situation, and all essential services are functioning smoothly,” Mrs. Sahni said, calling for public cooperation and calm.
