House of Representatives passed a ban on abortion in March 2019. Georgia is one of the top movie and TV Filming locations in U.S., many Georgians are arguing that the move would do more harm than good.
The Actress and Activist Alyssa Milano penned a Letter to Governor Brian Kemp office and said “we cannot in good conscience continue to recommend our industry remain in Georgia if H.B. 481 becomes law.” The letter was signed by many actors; the list includes Alec Baldwin, Jessica Chastain, Tracee Ellis Ross, Lena Waithe, Sean Penn, Tessa Thompson, Bardely Whitford, Shailene, Woodley and Rashida Jones.
Like Alyssa actor, Jason Bateman said in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter “If the ‘heartbeat bill’ makes it through the court system, I will not work in Georgia, or any other state, that is so disgracefully at odds with women rights.”

This move is also facing the counterblast from the public as well as the professionals from the Hollywood industry. The Hollywood director, Lexi Alexander expressed views on Twitter and captioned “The Georgia film industry has a MUCH larger number of Black filmmakers and Black crew than in any other State in the US... so I find these suggestions a little careless. Who are you punishing?” people have to wait till January 2020 to see whether the law will be enacted or will be considered unconditional.
