Well-recognized and champion trainer Chad Brown, whose Zandon finished third in the Kentucky Derby earlier this year, has been charged with obstruction of breathing, a misdemeanor after an incident in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., on Wednesday night.

The American media reported that Brown spent the night in the city jail and was expected to be released from custody after pronouncing the bail. The reports also say that Brown didn’t plead guilty.

As per the statements coming in from Assistant District Attorney Kayla Potter, Brown “pushed a woman down a flight of stairs at his home, pinned her to the floor, and tried to choke her before throwing her out of the house.”

The state penal code of New York City defines criminal obstruction of breathing or blood circulation as “applying pressure on the throat or neck of an individual with the intent to impede the normal breathing or circulation of the blood of another person, or blocking the nose or mouth of such person with the same intent."

If found guilty of a misdemeanor the convicted person shall be liable to serve a jail term of one year or three years of probation.

Brown has given a regular appearance in the Kentucky Derby trail since projecting his first horse in 2013, finishing fourth with Normandy Invasion. His best career finish came with Good Magic in the form of runners-up in 2018.

Among the personal accolades, Brown was recognized with Eclipse Awards for Outstanding Trainer for four straight seasons from 2016-2019.
