Reportedly on last Monday night, a grocery shop and house were robbed and looted in Jhandechak village of Gurdaspur. Police had received information that a suspect involved in the robbery was admitted to Navtej Humanity Hospital in Batala. It has been learned that the police led by DSP of Dinanagar reached the hospital to arrest the suspect.

Dinanagar police asked SHO City Mukhtiar Singh to visit the hospital along with the police party where they were informed that the suspect had been referred to another hospital. On gathering more information about a suspect, SHO Mukhtiar Singh indulged into a verbal spat with hospital operator, Navtej Singh aka Guggu.

The controversy escalated so much that the hospital staff and patients also came out in support of Gugu and started shoving the police officers,  trying to surround them and also hit sticks, pelted stones on the police car but the police officers sensing danger left the spot. In this push, a hospital employee also suffered a minor injury.

He had already left the hospital before the police arrived. The police committed hooliganism in the hospital due to prejudice. In this regard, we had filed a written complaint on Thursday with SSP Batala.

However, the police are refusing to speak openly in this matter. On the other hand, SHO City Inspector Mukhtiar Singh said that he had gone to extend help to the Dinanagar police. Police is taking further action regarding the incident in the hospital.
