Born on February 6, 1945, Jamaica-born Bob Marley was named Nesta Robert Marley by his parents, but a mistake in the passport gave him the name Robert Nesta Marley. Not only this, the date of his birthday was written in his certificate on 6 April because his mother took some time to register the date of his birthday.

His popularity in India can be gauged from the fact that here his name T-shirts and posters are still sold on a large basis. Bob started his career with the group 'The Velars' in 1963 and after a long struggle, his solo album Exodus was released in 1977. It broke all records of success. It has sold a total of 7.5 crore copies.

Bob highlighted the problems of the world through his songs. The listeners of his songs felt connected to their way of life and to their words. Fans believe that there is magic in Bob's music. You cannot get away from it even if you want to.

After the arrival of Bob Marley and his band 'Wailers', Reggae music began to be heard in all corners of the world. Previously Reggae music was preferred only in Jamaica. Bob was known as the White Boy in Kingston. Bob was a very kind person. He had experienced poverty, then when money came to him, he bought homes for his friends and poor people in Jamaica.

Bob was a very religious person. He suffered an injury while playing football in 1977. The doctors advised him to get his leg amputated but Bob refused to do so, thinking about religious things. Later that tumor spread so much that on 11 May 1981 Bob died. Bob is buried in his home garden.

Apart from his music, Bob Marley is widely followed by the youths and people who love the hippie culture. There are many portraits that showcase the singer to be smoking joints. However, the reason behind smoking weed by Marley is something different. For Bob, it was religious, not only relaxation.

Bob was converted from Christianity, he was not taken alone – thousands of his fellow Jamaicans also converted to practice Rastafarianism, creating a Rasta movement that cited Bob as one of the leaders.

This decision is what began to put Bob Marley in the spotlight as a religious influencer to his people and country. The connection between Rastafarianism and marijuana is that the religion views weed as a spiritual tool. The purpose of marijuana for Rastafarians is to assist in meditation and open further doors to potentially understand the universe.

Most Famous Bob Marley Quote:

“I wish we were all hippies and did yoga, lived in cottages, smoked weed, accepted everyone for who they are, and listened to wonderful music. I wish money didn't make us who we are. I just wish we could redo society.” ― Bob Marley
