IAS officer Sanjay Popli, who is arrested in corruption charges, attended the funeral of his son Kartik Popli, 26, who was shot dead at his home in Chandigarh's Sector 11 on Saturday. Sanjay Popli lit the pyre at Sector 25 Cremation Ground. IAS Sanjay Popli was brought by the Punjab Police from Ropar District Jail to Chandigarh to attend the funeral of his son Kartik Popli.
Speaking to reporters after the funeral of his son Karthik, Sanjay Popli said he has full faith in the government and judiciary of the country and will get justice in the case of his son's death. Before the cremation, a panel of forensic doctors performed an autopsy on the body at PGI, which was video graphed. The entire operation was overseen by Magistrate ADC Amit Kumar.

Sanjay Popli, a 2008 batch IAS officer, was arrested from Chandigarh on June 20 on charges of demanding a bribe of Rs 7 lakh for clearing tender for laying sewerage pipeline at Nawanshahr. One of Popli's accomplices, Sandeep Watts, has also been arrested from Jalandhar.
