Iconic 'Sholay' actor Birbal, real name Satinder Kumar Khosla, passes away in his 80s

Renowned Bollywood actor Satinder Kumar Khosla, better known as Birbal, died on Tuesday evening at the age of 84 after suffering a heart attack at a local hospital, according to his daughter Shalini.

Birbal's iconic performance as the prisoner with a half-moustache in the 1975 movie 'Sholay,' alongside superstars Dharmendra and Amitabh Bachchan, is irreversibly carved in cinematic history.

Shalini shared that her father had been receiving treatment for kidney-related problems at the Kokilaben Dhirubhai Ambani Hospital for the last week. She expressed, "He had brain surgery about a month ago. We just hospitalized him again due to increasing kidney issues. Tragically, he died on Tuesday evening due to a heart arrest."

The family intends to conduct his final rites at the Versova crematorium on Wednesday, around noon.

Late renown actor Satinder Kumar Khosla’s character Birbal rose to prominence in the 1960s and 1970s for his comedic brilliance in films such as "Boond Jo Ban Gayi Moti," "Upkar," and "Roti Kapda Aur Makaan." Birbal's film career spans over 500 films in languages such as Hindi, Punjabi, Bhojpuri, and Marathi.
