"If talks fail military options on the table", says CDS Rawat over India-China border row

Reportedly, the talks to settle the dispute between the two sides have been going on for over 3 months now

India's Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) General Bipin Rawat over India-China border row has now stated, a military option to deal with transgressions by the Chinese Army in Ladakh is on the table if talks between the two armies and the diplomatic option fail.

CDS Rawat added that the transgressions along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) occur due to differing perceptions about its alignment.

“The military option to deal with the transgressions by the Chinese Army in Ladakh is still on but will be considered only if the talks at the diplomatic and military level fail,” CDS General Bipin Rawat said. The CDS, however, declined to discuss military options.

India and China are engaged in a standoff since April-May over the transgressions by the Chinese troops in multiple areas including the Finger area, Galwan Valley, Hot Springs, and Kongrung nala.

Reportedly, the talks to settle the dispute between the two sides have been going on for over 3 months now including five Lieutenant general-level talks but have failed to yield any consequences so far.

The CDS, however, was reluctant to share in detail the military options that India could exercise to push back the transgressions by the Chinese Armi in easter Ladakh region.

On the other hand, the Chinese Army has abstained to disengage completely from the Finger area and seems to be buying time to delay its disengagement from there.

While efforts are underway to resolve the ongoing border dispute, India has rejected the Chinese suggestion to disengage equidistantly from the Finger area in Eastern Ladakh.
