Ilhan Omar PoK Visit: The name of US MP Ilhan Omar, who visited Pakistan-occupied Kashmir ie PoK, is in the news. On the one hand, India has condemned her visit.

At the same time, America has distanced itself from the visit of its MP and has said that the wires of this tour are not connected with the US government in any way. It has also been described as Omar's 'personal journey'. Whereas, India has called it the politics of Omar's 'narrow mindset'.

Who is Ilhan Omar?

Omar, who belongs to the Democrats, is a representative from Minnesota. Born on October 4, 1982, in Mogadishu, Somalia, Omar attended Edison High School in Minneapolis and North Dakota State University.

Before this, she has also served in the Minnesota Department of Education and the Minneapolis City Council.

Considered to be an expert in Twin Cities Policy Analysis, Omar is also an experienced speaker and lawyer. She took the oath of office in the year 2019.

The special thing is that she is the first African refugee, who became a member of Congress, as well as the first black woman to represent Minnesota.

Her family had left Somalia during the Civil War. Umar was 8 years old at that time. After this, the family spent four years in Kenya's refugee camp and then reached America in the 1990s.

In 1997, she moved to Minneapolis with her family. It is reported that Umar has entered politics by taking inspiration from her grandfather.

What happened in the controversy

Omar, the former Prime Minister of Pakistan, at Bani Gala in Islamabad on Wednesday met Imran Khan. Shireen Mazari, who was the Human Rights Minister in the Khan government, also shared a photo of this meeting.

She is on a four-day visit to Pakistan, which began on April 20. After the PoK tour, she said that Kashmir should be given more attention by the US. She had said, 'I don't think that much talk is being done on this (Kashmir) in the Congress and the administration as much as is needed.'

India's response

Foreign Ministry spokesperson Arindam Bagchi said, 'I just want to say that if such politicians want to do narrow-minded politics in their home, then it is their problem.' "But the violation of our territorial sovereignty and integrity... makes it our problem and we think this visit is condemnable," he said.

What did America say?

Speaking to news agency ANI, US Secretary of State Antony Blinken's Secretary of State Derek Chollett said, "This is an unofficial private visit and does not represent any change in the policy of the United States of America."
