The Indian web series, Sacred Games and Mirzapur have claimed the top positions on the list of IMDb's all-time most popular web series, comprising the top 50 rankings.
Both the shows belong to the crime-thriller genre, a niche which is a crowd favourite and is widely sought after on OTT platforms. Interestingly, out of the 50 slots on the list, 30 are occupied by the crime-thriller genre.
Vikramaditya Motwane and Anurag Kashyap’s Sacred Games, a neo-noir thriller series laced with crime and action is ranked as No. 1 on the list. It stars Saif Ali Khan as Sartaj Singh, a troubled cop in Mumbai who receives a mysterious phone call from Ganesh Gaitonde, a notorious crime lord played by Nawazuddin Siddiqi. Pankaj Tripathi essays the Role of Guruji along with Radhika Apte an officer in the RAW.
The Pankaj Tripathi starrer, Mirzapur created by Karan Anshuman and Puneet Krishna is the story of a millionaire carpet exporter and mafia don Akhanda Tripathi more popularly monikered as ‘Kaleen Bhaiya’ and his power-hungry son who will stop at nothing to inherit his father’s legacy. The show is an action-packed crime thriller series which has a massive devoted fan following.
The makers of both shows have expressed their delight and commented on how the content available to Indian viewers on OTT platforms is transforming every day. The creators look forward to keeping the momentum going by delivering more such binge-worthy shows.
