Sydney: Australia defeated India by 34 runs in the first ODI at Sydney. Jhye Richardson became the man of the match for picking up 4 crucial wickets.

Earlier, Australia won the toss and chose to bat first in which they scored 288 runs. Indian innings never got going with wickets tumbling at one end while Rohit Sharma held on to the other and had stabilized the things with Dhoni who scored a fifty. Once Rohit got out, it was easy for the Australian bowlers to put more pressure on Indian tail and win the first ODI.
