In India, there is a huge importance of ‘muhurat’ the auspicious moment and as the country celebrates Rakshabandhan today there is a lot of confusion prevailing over the timing of the auspicious moment for the same.

As per the religious scholars around the country, the ‘Bhadra Nakshtra’ has made 8.25 to 9.45 tonight the best moment to tie the rakhi. Several scholars from Banaras, Ujjain, Haridwar, Puri, and Tirupati have made things clear to celebrate the pious day only after the Bhadra period gets away the timing for which is at 8.25.

Tomorrow on 12 the Purnima in Hindu mythology for Full Moon Day will only last for 2 hours, therefore the scholars advise celebrating the festival today itself. The positioning of stars has never been much in over 200 years the moment has graced the auspicious occasion of Rakshabandhan.

The holy texts of Hinduism have specified to start the occasion with offering a rakhi to ‘Lord Ganesha’ which the priest says doing will take away all your issues from you and ensures prosperity. Sisters staying far away from their brothers can mark the event by tying Rakhis to the idols of Lord Ganesha and Krishna.

The History:

According to Puranas, for the first time lord Indra’s wife Sachi tied a knot with him, which brought laurels to the god of rain at the battle. The same story has been narrated in ‘Vaman Puran’ which mentions that Goddess Lakshmi had tied one such similar Knot to Baali.

After this, the tradition of celebrating it in the form of tying the knot graced the common people and has been in practice since the Vedic period. Later it remained restricted to sisters tying the knot on the brother’s wrist to ensure and pray for her brother’s safety and long life.
