India policy head of Twitter resigns amid government warnings, firm says no link, cites personal reasons

While the sources say that her resignation is not linked to the warnings to Twitter by government over firm's unwithholding of several Twitter accounts.

Mahima Kaul, the policy head of Twitter India resigned amidst government warnings to the company. However, she cited personal reasons for resigning. After Ankhi Das of Facebook quit as the India policy head in October 2020, this is the second major resignation from the tech giant Twitter.

While the sources say that her resignation is not linked to the warnings to Twitter by government over firm's unwithholding of several Twitter accounts. The government had asked Twitter to withhold several accounts but Twitter restored the accounts after withholding them in the first instance.

Monique Meche, Vice President, Public Policy at Twitter in a statement said, "At the start of this year, Mahima Kaul decided to step down from her role as Twitter Public Policy Director for India and South Asia to take a well-deserved break." Kaul is reported to continue until March, 2021.

Kaul had worked for over five years in Twitter. According to sources, she has decided to resign prior to the governmental warnings.
