In a historic moment for the Indian Army, women officers have been inducted into the Artillery Regiment for the first time. Five women officers were commissioned into the Regiment of Artillery after completing their training at the Officers Training Academy in Chennai.

Out of these five officers, two have been posted in the unit on the border of Pakistan, while three officers will work in the unit deployed on the China border. The induction of women officers in the Artillery Regiment is a significant step towards gender equality and women's empowerment in the Indian Army.

One of the newly commissioned officers, Rekha Singh, is the wife of jawan Deepak Singh, who was martyred in the Galvan attack. After completing her training, she has joined the army as a lieutenant. Deepak Singh was awarded the Vir Chakra for his gallantry, and Rekha's decision to join the army after her husband's sacrifice is a testament to the spirit of patriotism and dedication towards the country.

The Indian Army also recognized the contribution of twin brothers Ajay Singh Gill and Arjun Singh, who participated in the training. Ajay passed out with the Sword of Honor, while Arjun will pass out after six months.

In January, Army Chief General Manoj Pandey had announced the proposal to induct women officers in the Artillery Regiment, which was later approved by the Central Government. This decision is a significant step towards promoting gender equality in the Indian Armed Forces and encouraging more women to take up careers in the military.
