Canada is the most favorable destination for Indians when it comes to immigration. Almost every youth in India wants to go to Canada for education purposes or better job opportunities. Surprisingly, according to the National Foundation for American Policy (NFAP) analysis of Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada data revealed that approximately 5,50,000 study permits were issued to Indians by Canada in the year 2022.
Reportedly, the number of Indians immigrating to Canada has tripled since the year 2013. As per NFAP this number is expected in a refugee situation but this number for immigration is shocking as well as concern for India. The data further reveals that Canada has seen an increase in the number of immigrants due to restrictive immigration policies in the United States, particularly during the Trump administration.
Talking about the students who are now permanent residents in Canada has also increased. Number of Indians who got PR rose from 32,828 in 2013 to 118,095 in 2022 which is a straightaway rise of 260%. In 2022, Indian immigration to Canada became the next largest source country for permanent residents. Earlier Canada had more immigrants from the Philippines than from India but now India has surpassed the Philippines as well.
