Aam Aadmi Party's councillor Vaneet Dhir on Saturday was elected as the new Mayor of Jalandhar. Vaneet Dhir was among the top faces of AAP for the Jalandhar MC Elections 2024. He won from Ward Number 62 by more than 4000 votes. Apart from Vaneet Dhir, Balbir Singh Dhillon was elected as Senior Deputy Mayor, Malkeet Singh was elected as Deputy Mayor of the Jalandhar Municipal Corporation. Notably, AAP banked the Mayor's post on Vaneet Dhir who joined the party just before Punjab Civic Body Elections 2024 after quitting the BJP.
However, sources in the known development have revealed that Punjab Rajya Sabha MP & Chancellor of Lovely Professional University (LPU) Ashok Mittal proposed Vaneet Dhir's name to the AAP High Command. Notably, MP Ashok Mittal and Vaneet Dhir also are close to Hockey Punjab President & founder and Managing Director of Tracer shoes, Nitin Kohli.
MP Ashok Mittal is also very close to AAP leadership, especially the party's National Convenor Arvind Kejriwal. Vaneet Dhir's clean image also became a major factor on why Rajya Sabha MP Ashok Mittal proposed his name.
After becoming the Mayor of Jalandhar, Vaneet Dhir exclusively talked to True Scoop and listed his 5 priorities on which he will work. Furthermore, Vaneet Dhir assured the people of Jalandhar that their every single penny will be used to make Jalandhar a beautiful smart city. Not only this, but Vaneet Dhir reiterated Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann's zero tolerance against corruption policy and issued a warning to corrupt officials involved in any kind of scam that is linked to the Jalandhar Smart City Project.
Vaneet Dhir said, "I think it was the public's money that came in the form of the smart city project of Jalandhar. But, big scams took place with it. It was highlighted in the media as well. Every single penny of the people of Jalandhar that was taken by corrupt officers or whosoever will be brought back. Mann Saab (Punjab CM Bhagwant Singh Mann) has zero tolerance against corruption. The Bhagwant Mann Government of AAP is inclined to work for the development of Jalandhar. I assure the people of Jalandhar that whatever scam that has taken place in the city it will be unraveled."
