Jalandhar's CT Public School on Sunday came under the scanner of Sikh bodies after they organized a Christmas celebration event on their premises. CT Public School is located in Maqsudan, Jalandhar. At least 7 different Sikh groups arrived at the CT Public School and staged a protest against a 'religious' Christmas program on the martyrdom day of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. After a ruckus at the Jalandhar school, Police were called in and heavy forces were deployed to prevent any untoward incident. However, seeing Sikh bodies lodging their strong protest, CT Institute Management reportedly apologized. After their apology, the Sikh bodies calmed down over the celebration.

As per the information received, the entire Punjab and the world on Sunday was observing the martyrdom day of Shri Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji. On that day, the CT Public School had organized a Christmas program. This enraged the Sikh bodies. The Sikh bodies expressed their anger via protest expressing that on one hand the martyrdom day of Shri Guru Teg Bahadur Ji is being celebrated in Jalandhar city and on the other hand a program is being organized in the school. In contrast, the manager of the school himself is from a Sikh family.

The Sikh bodies clarified that they have no discrimination against any religion. But it is not right to organize programs on this day. They further informed that they had only come to convince the managers to stop the program. The school management, while speaking to the media, said that a program was going on in the school, which was opposed by Sikh groups. As per the management, the issue was resolved peacefully after holding a discussion.

SHO of Police Station 1 Sukhbir Singh said that a program was being organized in the school regarding the New Year. 'It's nothing to hurt anyone's sentiments. School children came to participate in the program. The members of Sikh groups have been explained,' said Sukhbir Singh, SHO.

It is pertinent to mention here that it is not the first time CT Public School has come under the scanner due to religious beliefs. CT Public School was accused of removing the Kadas of Sikh students that was strongly opposed by Sikh bodies.
