Prime Minister Internship Scheme was announced in the Union Budget 2024 by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman. This scheme will provide internship opportunities to the youth of the country.
The ministry of corporate affairs shared a post about the PM Internship scheme on X. It reads, “PM Internship Scheme is a transformative initiative by the Hon'ble PM Shri Narendra Modi led government to ensure the skilling of our youth, which will enhance their employability. It will provide an opportunity to do an internship in the Top 500 companies in India for 12 months and learn from the best. There will be an allowance of Rs 5000/- per month and Rs 6000/- as a one-time grant.”
“The portal ensures efficient access to internships across sectors with Aadhaar-based registration and tools like bio-data generation. In the past week, the portal has added more than 80,000 opportunities across 24 sectors including Oil, Gas & Energy sector, Travel & Hospitality, Automotive, Banking and Financial Services, etc. All eligible candidates in the age group 21-24 are encouraged to apply at the earliest!” the post further mentioned.
In order to develop skills that will provide employment to the youth, the internship program’s guidelines clearly stated that the job of interns should be completely skill-based. Small jobs will not be included in this.
A unique feature of this internship program is that corporates can hire interns not only within their core business but also in their supply chain and their group companies. However, the certification of the internship must be provided by the main company of the group in order to maintain the credibility and uniformity of this program.
